Until I migrate the content of this page back here, I'll direct you to the blog posts I made of Interview With the Vampire Season Two. I did not do this for Season One, and I've only just watched the first two episodes of The Vampire Lestat . I also watched The Vampire Lestat After Dark for the first episode.
For now, I'll share this. When I first saw Gabrielle, Lestat's mother, it brought to mind another character from the Lives of the Mayfair Witches novels. Rowan Mayfair.
Yes. Rowan Mayfair.
Not just her physical appearance, but her demeanor. Specifically, the way she came across in the beginning of Blood Canticle , almost cold in a way. Rowan Mayfair had asked Lestat, "What's wrong with you?"
I thought about that school of thought where people choose their partners according to what their parents were like. If that's true, then we have to wonder if that happens even if there are some fundamental differences in character between the parent and the partner of choice.
Gabrielle had this coldness towards her children, and towards her husband (and vice versa) that despite some similarities in personality, weren't the same in Rowan Mayfair. Particular differences were that Rowan Mayfair did, in fact, love her husband, Michael Curry, as he loved her. And despite the demise of the poor girl, she did love her Taltos daughter, Emaleth.
Then, I thought of a joke from a movie that was very popular when I was a kid, Dirty Dancing . A comedian (Wayne Knight) was onstage to entertain the guests at Kellerman's Resort The joke?
"I finally met a girl exactly like my mother. Dresses like her, acts like her. So I brought her home... My father doesn't like her! "
Okay, that's basically a match.
